\n Watch CNN Chief Congressional Correspondent Manu Raju\u2019s interview with former Speaker Kevin McCarthy this Sunday at 11 a.m. ET\/8 a.m. PT on CNN\u2019s \u201cInside Politics.\u201d\ufeff<\/em>\n<\/p>\n

\n Former House Speaker\u00a0Kevin McCarthy, who was ousted in unprecedented fashion more than a month ago, railed on the Republicans who voted for his\u00a0removal \u2014 and bluntly predicted that one of his detractors would lose reelection next year.\n <\/p>\n

\n In an exclusive interview with\u00a0CNN in his new office on Thursday, McCarthy said that GOP Rep. Nancy Mace\u00a0of South Carolina\u00a0didn\u2019t deserve to be reelected in her\u00a0competitive\u00a0district next year \u2014 and he questioned the wisdom of his GOP critics for following the lead of Rep. Matt Gaetz\u00a0of Florida, whom he accused of leading the charge out of retaliation for an ethics complaint he is facing.\n <\/p>\n

\n McCarthy, who has kept his powder mostly dry since Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana won the speakership after a chaotic 22-day episode following his ouster, made clear Thursday that he hasn\u2019t forgotten about the eight Republicans who voted to make him the first speaker in history to lose his job by a vote on the floor.\n <\/p>\n

\n McCarthy referred to six of his GOP detractors as \u201cdisruptors,\u201d and said he was particularly surprised that Mace and Tennessee Rep. Tim Burchett joined Gaetz in the effort to oust him. And McCarthy said the Republican Party would benefit \u201ctremendously\u201d if Gaetz was no longer a member of the House, saying there should be \u201cconsequences\u201d for his action.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cPeople have to earn the right to be here. And I just think from \u2013 I mean he\u2019ll admit to you personally. He doesn\u2019t have a conservative bent in his philosophy. And just the nature of what he focuses on,\u201d McCarthy said.\n <\/p>\n

\n He said that it\u2019s up to the conference if the House GOP should consider expelling Gaetz and added he doesn\u2019t\u00a0\u201cbelieve\u00a0the conference will ever heal if there\u2019s no consequences for the action.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n In response, Gaetz shot back.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThoughts and prayers to the former\u00a0speaker as he works through his grief,\u201d Gaetz told CNN.\n <\/p>\n

\n McCarthy also said he thinks Mace will lose\u00a0reelection now and doesn\u2019t \u201cthink\u00a0she\u2019ll probably have earned the right to get reelected.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cIf you\u2019ve watched her, just her philosophy, and the flip-flopping, I don\u2019t believe she wins reelection,\u201d McCarthy said.\n <\/p>\n

\n Mace, who is running for a third term next November, responded to McCarthy\u2019s sharp criticism, saying that she\u2019s more popular now than ever in her district as she touted her\u00a0\u201cindependent\u00a0voice\u201d and brushed aside the former speaker\u2019s implication that she needs his money to win reelection.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cI mean, this was a guy who lied all the time, like every day. I mean, he told conservatives he was absolutely gonna impeach Joe Biden. Two hours later, the same day, told moderates that he would never impeach Joe Biden, a guy like that can\u2019t lead our country. And we\u2019ve moved on to a much better speaker who\u2019s honest and trustworthy and is going to tell the truth,\u201d she told CNN.\n <\/p>\n

\n McCarthy, as speaker, never publicly ruled out impeaching Biden as he greenlit a formal inquiry.\n <\/p>\n

\n Mace downplayed McCarthy\u2019s past fundraising help in her previous runs.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cI\u00a0raise\u00a0$6 million\u00a0every two years for my reelection campaign. I know exactly how to raise money. I know exactly how to run\u00a0\u2013\u00a0women can run and women can win,\u00a0Kevin McCarthy\u00a0\u2013\u00a0surprise.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n In the interview, McCarthy said he was surprised by Burchett as well, calling his vote to oust him \u201cout of nature.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThey care a lot about press, not about policy, and so they seem to just want the press and the personality,\u201d McCarthy said.\n <\/p>\n

\n Asked to respond, Burchett said McCarthy was \u201cbitter.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cHe belittled my faith and I just, I didn\u2019t see that as the type of person who needed to be in leadership,\u201d Burchett said\u00a0referring to a private phone call\u00a0he had with McCarthy ahead of the vote to oust him.\n <\/p>\n

\n McCarthy has previously said he didn\u2019t intend to offend the Tennessee Republican.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cHe\u2019s angry and I\u2019m sure he\u2019ll be angry for the rest of his life, but I always, when people do something like he did I always wonder why they don\u2019t look at themselves,\u201d Burchett said. \u201cIt\u2019s always that they\u2019re gonna blame somebody else.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Burchett added: \u201cHe\u2019ll enter into a successful job in lobbying.\u201d\n <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
